DAAM The “Motor-city Madness” Model Contest

 

The “Motor-city Madness” Model contest is traditionally held at our April toy show, this is a judged contest, with 16 classes, and awards for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place in each class. There are also specialty awards such as best engine, best paint, best interior, and best of show. In addition to the “Best of” awards, there is the “Jimmy Flintstone award”. This award goes to the model that Jimmy selects himself. Below is a list of classes, with descriptions, and some basic rules of the contest. Entry fee is $2.00 per model.

 

  • Youth – 10 years old and under, any type model. No entry fee.
  • Junior – 11 – 16 years old, any type model.
  • Box stock – Built right out of the box, Paint and foil allowed
  • Factory stock – Built to replicate a factory built vehicle.
  • Competition In-line – Drag cars, Salt flat cars, any straight line racer.
  • Competition Oval – NASCAR, Indy, F-1, etc.
  • Street Rod – Pre 1949 vehicle must be street legal, wipers, complete exhaust, etc.
  • Street Machine – 1949 or newer. Must be street legal, wipers, exhaust, etc.
  • Light Truck – Any light duty/passenger truck, Van or SUV.
  • Rat rods – No trailer queens here. Primer, Suede, Satin, or Rust. It’s all cool.
  • Lowrider – Any car or light duty truck built in the “Lowrider” style.
  • Slammer/Curbside – A model lacking any combination of chassis, engine or interior.
  • Emergency/Commercial – Vehicle used in Police, Fire, Service, or Commercial use.
  • Customs – Any vehicle with major body modifications, or major conversions.
  • Diorama – Depiction of a scene or event. Maximum size 2’ x 2’ please.
  • Miscellaneous – Motorcycles, Zamboni’s, Riding lawnmowers, etc.

                              

Contest Rules

 

  • Display bases or nonessential, unattached items not allowed. Except in Diorama class.
  • If a model qualifies for more than one class, entrant may select class.
  • Judges reserve the right to move models to different classes if necessary.
  • All Judges Decisions are final.
  • Every possible precaution will be taken to see that all models are carefully handled and guarded against theft and/or damage. However the Detroit Area Auto Modelers will not be held responsible for theft and/or breakage.
  • Registration 9:30am – 11:30am, Judging 12:30pm – 2:30pm, Awards at 3:00 pm
