The Don Borowicz Memorial Award
In may of 2006 DAAM suffered a great loss. One of our founding members, Don Borowicz, passed away. It was a huge shock to our club, considering most of us saw him a couple weeks prior at our local car show / swap meet. Don was the kind of guy that if you met him once, you couldn’t help but love him. If you were feeling down, Don’s personality and sense of humor quickly changed that.
For about 5 ½ years I worked part time at a local hobby shop. My nickname in our club is “Bowzer”. Every time that I was working, and Don came in, it was the same. Regardless of how crowded the store was, Don would let out a dog-like howl. Then he would ask “What’s happenin’ Bowz?!” with a big ol’ smile on his face. God do I miss that.
Don will never be forgotten, he will forever be a member of our club. At DAAM meetings there is a special chair reserved for “Don’s seat”.
Although it could never measure up to the man himself, the “Don Borowicz Memorial Award” honors the memory of this great man. This award is presented at each “Motor-City NNL”, and the recipient of the award is chosen by Don’s family. We hope that the winners of this award know how much feeling is behind this award.
Losing Don was obviously a tragic loss to the Borowicz family, and was a great loss to our club. Don was like family to all of us.
We love and miss you Don.
-“Bowzer”
